What happens if your WhatsApp AI quotes the wrong price?

If your WhatsApp AI quotes a wrong price, promo, discount, or package, customers treat it as your official answer — so the safest fix is to give the AI one current price list and a rule to confirm, not guess, whenever a price is uncertain.

Why a wrong price is so damaging

A late reply loses a customer. A wrong AI reply quietly loses their trust — and you may not even know it happened. When the AI answers on your WhatsApp, the customer assumes the number is official and plans around it. Common ways it goes wrong:

  • Wrong price — an old menu or price list lingers and the AI quotes a number you stopped charging.
  • Wrong promo — a finished promotion is still in the AI's information.
  • Wrong discount — the AI offers a discount that no longer applies, or to the wrong customer.
  • Wrong package — the AI mixes up package sizes, bundles, or what is included.

The customer expects the answer to be official

Customers do not see “an AI guessed this”. They see your business name and a price. If it is wrong, you either honour a number you cannot afford, or you walk it back and look unreliable. Either way, trust takes the hit.

Sample failure and the safer answer

Bad AI answer: “Yes, the 1kg beans are BND 28 and we can deliver today.”

Why it fails:

  • Price is unconfirmed.
  • Stock is unconfirmed.
  • Same-day delivery is unconfirmed.

Safer answer: “Let me confirm today's price and availability first so I do not quote the wrong amount.”

The owner-confirmation rule

The single most useful rule: when a price is uncertain, the AI confirms instead of guessing. Give the AI one current price list, remove old promos, and state clearly that any value it is unsure of must be confirmed — not invented. If you do not yet know a value, keep it marked NEEDS OWNER CONFIRMATION so it is treated as missing, not ready.

A handover rule for uncertain pricing
